Description : The Jack Snipe is a very small cryptically marked marsh bird (adult bird length approximately18 cm, weight 45 g, wing 11 cm, bill 4.2 cm, tarsus 2.4 cm, tail 4.8 cm). It looks dark brown-green from above and white from below. It feeds on insects and their larvae, annelids, small molluscs and seeds. During courtship, the male engages in an aerial display, accompanied by a unique sound resembling that of a galloping horse. In the winter, this sound is absent. They choose a concealed spot on the ground as their nesting site and lay a clutch of 3–4 eggs.
