Description : Black eagle has dark plumage, long tail and end part of the tail is square shaped. Adult bird length approximately 75 cm. it’s long wings extend to tip of tail. Adult bird has dark brownish back, with striking yellow feet. It prefers hill area. During courtship, the black eagle performs steep dives with folded wings, followed by upward swoops in a U shape and vertical stalls. They construct a platform nest, typically 3 to 4 feet wide, on a tall tree overlooking a steep valley. The nesting season, occurring from January to April, may see the laying of one or two white eggs with brown and mauve blotches. The nest site is often reused in subsequent years. The black eagle has a varied diet, including mammals (such as bats, squirrels, and small mammals), birds, and eggs. It is known for its slow flight just above the forest canopy and possesses curved claws and a wide gape, enabling it to seize bird eggs from nests and swiftlets from caves. Similar to swallow-tailed kites, they have the peculiar behavior of carrying an entire nest with nestlings to a feeding perch. Their presence often triggers alarm calls from squirrels, macaques, and various bird species in the forest. The Indian giant squirrel has been recorded as prey for this species, and young bonnet macaques can also fall victim to them.
