Description : The White-rumped Vulture is a large broad-winged scavenger (adult bird length approximately 90 cm, weight 4.3 kg, wing 55 cm, bill 7.6 cm, tarsus 11.6 cm, tail 22.5 cm). Its body is blackish-brown with a dirty white ruff and prominent white rump. Its bare head and neck are dark grey. It breeds in September-March. It nests in tall trees and ruins. They engage in regular bathing and drinking when water is available. They have been observed as part of a vulture pack that efficiently consumed an entire bullock in just 20 minutes. The trees where they frequently roost often exhibit white discoloration from their excrement, which can have an acidic effect that harms and kills the trees. As a result, they are not typically welcomed in orchards and plantations. Additionally, they have been known to scavenge on dead vultures and were once observed accidentally caught in the mouth of a dying calf. In some cases, jungle crows have been observed stealing food brought by adults and regurgitated for their young.
