Description : The Montagu’s Harrier is a sleek raptor (adult bird length approximately 48 cm, wing 37 cm, bill 2.4 cm, tarsus 6 cm, tail 22.5 cm). The male looks dark ashy-grey from above and pale below. Both sexes have yellow irises, horn-black bill. It feeds on grasshoppers, field mice, lizards, frogs, and the young of ground nesting birds. This species primarily nests in lowland areas such as river valleys, plains, and lakesides. It can also adapt to various habitats including wetlands, heaths, dunes, moors, and even farmlands. When nesting in agricultural areas, it favors grasslands and cereal crops like wheat, barley, oats, and colza.
