Description : Eurasian Sparrowhawk is a small slate-grey raptor with short wings.Male:upperparts with dark slaty-grey and underparts rufous with strong reddish-orange bars on a white background.Female:upperparts with dark brown and underparts with barred dark brown. Both sexes have a slaty-blue bill with a black tip,golden-yellow or orange irises and yellow legs and feet.Juveniles appear as female except for browner upperparts. The Eurasian sparrowhawk is found in various woodland types as well as open areas with scattered trees. It prefers hunting along the edges of wooded areas, but migrant birds can adapt to different habitats. Modern forestry techniques that create medium-aged stands of trees have been beneficial for the species. Unlike the northern goshawk, the Eurasian sparrowhawk can be observed in gardens, urban areas, and even breed in city parks with sufficient tall trees.
