Scientific Name : Accipiter trivirgatus

Order : Accipitriformes
Class : Aves
Phylum : Chordata
Habitat : Evergreen forest

Description : The Crested Goshawk is a compact raptor with a short crest and long tail (adult bird length approximately 43 cm, wing 24 cm, tail 19.8 cm). The male has grey-brown upperparts and pale underparts marked with rufous-brown. Both sexes have a horn-brown bill, golden-yellow irises, and yellow legs and feet. It feeds on small mammals and birds like partridges, pigeons, junglefowls and pheasants. It is found in various woodland types as well as open areas with scattered trees. It prefers hunting along the edges of wooded areas, but migrant birds can adapt to different habitats. Modern forestry techniques that create medium-aged stands of trees have been beneficial for the species. It can be observed in gardens, urban areas, and even breed in city parks with sufficient tall trees.
