Description : The Pied Harrier is a long-winged bicoloured raptor. Black-and-white in the male and brown-and-grey in the female (adult bird length approximately 48 cm, weight 254 g, wing 36.5 cm, bill 2.4 cm, tarsus 8.1 cm, tail 21.6 cm). The male is smaller than the female. The male has a black head and grey tail. The female has dark brown upperparts, a brown streaked head and breast, and whitish belly. It feeds on small mammals, frogs, lizards, and grasshoppers. It may occasionally take weak, small birds. This eagle builds its nests in steppes and the surrounding wetlands. During the wintering season, these eagles are frequently observed hunting above rice paddies and marshes.
