Description : The Common Merganser is a large slim duck with a long body and long bill (adult bird length approximately 66 cm, weight 1.2 kg, wing 27 cm, bill 5.3 cm, tarsus 4.8 cm, tail 11 cm). It forages by swimming upstream and diving under water to seize its prey. It feeds on fish, aquatic insects, crustaceans, molluscs, worms, frogs, birds, small mammals and vegetable matter.
