Description : The Cinereous Vulture is a very big bird with a large angular head (adult bird length approximately 110 cm, wing 80 cm, bill 8.4 cm, tarsus 13.5 cm, tail 38 cm). Its body is black overall with a shade of brown. It has a partly naked neck and head with the cheeks and nape covered with black fur-like feathers. It feeds alone or in mixed groups of vultures. It feeds on dead animals or offal. The cinereous vulture is primarily a solitary bird, often seen alone or in pairs, though small groups may gather at large carcasses. They breed in high mountains and large forests, building nests in trees or occasionally on cliff ledges. Breeding season extends from February to September or October. Display flights by pairs and flight play between pairs and juveniles are common, with birds spiraling down together. The nests, which can be quite large, are made of sticks and twigs and are decorated with dung and animal skins over time. They are typically found in trees along cliffs. The vultures lay a single egg, sometimes two, with a white or pale buff base color and marked with red or purplish spots. Incubation lasts around 50 to 62 days, and hatching occurs in April or May in Europe. The young vultures are covered in down and start growing flight feathers at around 30 days old. The parents feed the young through regurgitation, and the nest can become foul-smelling.
