Description : The Asian Fairy Bluebird is a blue, green and black bird that remains almost invisible in the forest canopy (length 25 cm, wing 13 cm, bill 2.9 cm, tarsus 1.9 cm, tail 10 cm). The male and female differ. The male has bright violet-blue upperparts from the crown to the rump, apart from black wings and tail. Its straight bill, ear-coverts and lores are black. It has jetblack underparts except for blue undertail-coverts. The female looks entirely dull blue-green except for its blackish wing feathers edged with blue-green, and its brownish-black bill. Both sexes have scarlet-red irises, a greyish-pink mouth, and black legs, feet and claws. It feeds mainly on nectar, figs, berries and other ripe fruits. It occasionally takes insects. It breeds in January-June.
