Description : The Oriental Magpie-Robin is a small passerine whose male is visibly different from the female (length 20 cm, weight 40 g, wing 10 cm, bill 2.2 cm, tarsus 2.8 cm, tail 8.5 cm). The male looks glossy blue-black from above and white from below. It has glossy black-blue throat and breast. The female looks slaty from above and grey from below. Both sexes have prominent, long white line on the blackish-brown wings and white outer rectrices on the black tail. Its irises and bill are black, mouth is pale-flesh or greyish-pink, legs and feet are slatybrown or black and the sole is pale yellow. It feeds mainly on insects: ants, grasshoppers, caterpillars, earthworms, snails, centipedes, etc. It also takes small lizards, vegetable matters, nectar and date juice. It is most active at dusk and dawn. It breeds in March-July.
