Description : The Scaly Thrush is a passerine marked with prominent crescent-shaped scales (length 26 cm, weight 100 g, wing 14 cm, bill 2.8 cm, tarsus 3.5 cm, tail 10 cm). A typical adult looks yellowish olive-brown above with black crescent-shaped markings. It has buff and dark brown bars across wings and prominent crescent dark marking on the ear-coverts. From below, it looks whitish with brown crescent marks on the breast, flanks and sides of the belly. In flight, a buff underwing-patch is visible. Its irises are black, eye skin is yellowish, bill is horny-black with brownish at base. It has horny-brown legs and feet and pale-horny claws. The male and the female look alike. It feeds on insects, their larvae and berries. It breeds in March-October.
