Description : The White-tailed Rubythroat is a small passerine whose male is visibly different from the female (length 15 cm, wing 7.3 cm, bill 1.8 cm, tarsus 3 cm, tail 6 cm approximately)). The male looks brownish-slate above. It has ruby-red throat with black breast band, white forehead and supercilium, blackish tail with whitish sides and tip, white belly and undertail-covert. Its black breast feathers are bordered with white in fresh plumage. The female looks grey-brown above and greyish below with a white throat. It has a little white supercilium and whitish eye-ring, blackish-brown white tipped tail, white throat, smoky-grey breast and flanks, white belly and undertail-covert. Both sexes have dark brown irises, black bill, black or brownish-black legs and feet. It feeds mainly on insects, caterpillars, spiders, molluscs and young lizards. It breeds in May-August.
