Description : The Bluethroat is a small passerine whose male is visibly different from the female (length 15 cm, weight 17 g, wing 7 cm, bill 1.2 cm approximately)). The male looks brown from above and buff-whitish from below. It has a long white supercilium, white eye-ring, black lores, grey scales on ear-coverts and brownish chin. Its tail is orange-chestnut with black tips. It has blue band on the throat and black patch on the breast bordered with rufous band. Its belly is whitish and the flanks and undertail-covert are buff. The female has white and brown stripes but no blue band on its throat. It has black sub-moustachial stripe and whitish wing-bars. It feeds mainly on insects including beetles, caterpillars, ants, earthworms, etc. It breeds in May-August
