Description : The Lesser Shortwing is a small passerine whose male is visibly different from the female even as juveniles (length 13 cm, weight 20 g, wing 6 cm, bill 1.5 cm, tarsus 2.6 cm, tail 3.5 cm approximately). The male looks slaty-blue from above and white from below. It has blue-grey flank and breast-band and a fine white supercilium. The female looks rufous-brown from above and white from below. It has buff eye-ring and almost an invisible white supercilium. Its breast-band and flanks are diffused and have rufous-brown wash. It feeds mainly on insects. It breeds in April-July.
