Description : The Bar-tailed Godwit is a brownish wader with long legs and bill, and a white rump (adult bird length approximately 37 cm, weight 220 g, wing 21 cm, bill: 8 cm, 10 cm in female, tarsus 4.8 cm, tail 7.2 cm). The breeding male looks dark patterned sandy-brown from above, with greyer wings. It has a white supercilium and chestnut neck. It feeds on insects, annelids, and molluscs. The nest of the bar-tailed godwit is a shallow cup made of moss, sometimes lined with vegetation. The typical clutch size ranges from 2 to 5 eggs, with an average of four. Both male and female godwits take turns incubating the eggs for a period of 20 to 21 days. The female incubates during the day, while the male takes over during the night.
