Description : The Small Niltava is a small flycatcher with noticeable sexual dimorphism (length 11 cm, weight 12.5 g, wing 6.5 cm, bill 1.2 cm, tarsus 1.8 cm, tail 5 cm). The adult male looks dark blue from above. Its fore-crown, sides of the neck, rump and tail are brilliant blue. It has blue forehead, and deep purplish-blue throat, ashy breast, whitish belly and vent. The adult female looks dark olive-brown from above and rufous from below. It has rufescent wings and tail, pale-brown throat and fulvous-brown belly. Both sexes have brown irises, black bill, brownish legs and feet and hoary sole. It feeds chiefly on ants, beetles and other insects in the breeding season. It breeds in April-July.
