Description : The Smew is a small duck with a square head (adult bird length approximately 46 cm, weight 680 g, wing 19 cm, bill 3 cm, tarsus 3 cm, tail 7.5 cm). It inhabits the haors, open beels, rivers and lakes. It is usually seen in small groups. It forages by diving under water. It feeds mainly on fish, crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic insects and their larvae, worms and vegetable matter.
