Description : The Ruby-cheeked Sunbird is a small, colourful passerine with an orange throat and yellow belly (length 11 cm, wing 5.3 cm, bill 1.5 cm, tarsus 1.6 cm, tail 4.2 cm approximately). The male is visibly different from the female. The male has a metallic green crown, nape, back, rump and upper tail coverts. The wings and tail are dark blackish. Its cheek is shiny ruby to purplish when it catches the light. It has a rufous-orange throat and breast, and yellow belly. The female has dull olive-green upperparts, a light rufous-orange throat and breast, and yellow belly, but lacks the ruby cheek. It feeds on insects and nectar. It breeds in March-June.
