Description : The Mrs Gould’s Sunbird is a small active passerine with a curved bill and yellow rump (length 10 cm, weight 6 g, wing 13 cm, bill 2 cm, tarsus 1.5 cm, tail 4 cm approximately). The male is visibly different from the female. The male has a crimson back and mantle, a bright yellow rump, and blue upper tail coverts and tail with elongated central feathers. Its crown, ear-coverts and throat are metallic purple-blue. The sides of the neck, supercilium and malar stripe are crimson. Its breast and belly are yellow with often streaked red, and olive tinges on vent. The female is dull olive with a pale yellow rump, white tips to the outer feathers of a short rounded tail, and a pale yellow belly. It feeds mainly on nectar. Occasionally it takes insects and spiders. It breeds in the hills of northeast India in April-August.
