Description : The Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker is a tiny passerine of the treetops with a red rump (length 9 cm, weight 7.5 g, wing 4.8 cm, tarsus 1.3 cm, tail 2.6 cm approximately). The male is visibly different from the female. The male has a scarlet crown, nape, back and rump, black ear-covert and sides of the head and glossy blue-black wings and tail. The centre of its underparts from the throat to vent is pale buff with grey on the sides of its breast and flanks. The female has olive-brown upperparts, dark brown wings, a blackish tail, and the rump and uppertail-coverts are scarlet. It has buffish underparts with grey sides. It has, buffish underparts with grey sides. It feeds on insects, spiders, berries and nectar. It breeds in April-August.
