Description : The Brown Hawk-Owl is a sleek, dark brown, night bird with a long, banded tail (adult bird length approximately 32 cm, wing 11.5 cm, bill 2.2 cm, tarsus 2.5 cm, tail 13 cm). It looks uniformly dark brown from above and streaked rufous-brown from below. It has a white belly with large reddish-brown streaks. It feeds on insects, frogs, lizards, small birds and small mammals like mice and small bats. It breeds in March-June. It thrives in well-wooded areas and forests. It nests by laying three to five eggs within tree holes.
