Description : The Brown Fish Owl is a large brown fishing owl with stubby ear-tufts, bright golden-yellow irises and naked legs (adult bird length approximately 56 cm, weight 1.1 kg, wing 41 cm, bill 5.3 cm, tarsus 8 cm, tail 20 cm). It looks brown from above and dull brown from below. It has brown bars on its wings. It feeds on fish, frogs, crabs, rodents, reptiles and birds. It breeds in November-March. The brown fish owl is a resident species found year-round in various tropical and subtropical regions. Its preferred habitat consists of forests and woodlands that border streams, lakes, or rice fields. It primarily inhabits lowland areas, ranging from open woodlands to dense forests, and can also be found in plantations.
