Description : The Short-eared Owl is a dark brown bird of prey with a pair of very short ear-tufts (adult bird length approximately 38 cm, wing 31 cm, bill 3 cm, tarsus 4.5 cm, tail 14.5 cm). It has a pale buff body, the upperparts being darker with dark brown streaks and the underparts paler with longitudinal brown streaks. It feeds on small birds, rats, mice, locusts, grasshoppers, beetles, etc..
