Description : The orange minivet is a small bird that measures 17-22 cm and weighs 19-24.5 g. Male birds are bright orange and black with a glossy black head, chin, throat and mantle. Female birds are mostly yellow with a grey upper body. The males have isolated red markings near the tips of their tertials and inner secondaries. The females have a yellow forehead and ashy-grey lower back. Juveniles look like females with some variation. The orange minivet is a social bird that feeds in small groups while bouncing along treetops in forests. They primarily eat insects and scan their surroundings while perched. They catch their prey by hovering over plants, a behavior known as sally-gleaning. These birds often forage with other canopy species in mixed-hunting parties. Their call consists of sweeping whistles with multiple "weep-sweep" notes, and they vocalize while in flight or stationary. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
