Description : The Rosy Starling is a distinctive black and pale pink small-medium sized passerine (length 23 cm, weight 64 g, wing 13 cm, bill 2.4 cm, tarsus 3 cm, tail 7 cm). It has a glistening black head with a long shaggy crest hanging over its nape, neck, upper breast, wings and tail. It has a pale pinkish back, mantle, rump and underpart. The male and the female look alike. Both sexes have brown irises, pinkish-yellow bill with a blackish base, and horn-brown legs, feet and claws. In non-breeding adults the pink is a duller buffish-pink. The juvenile lacks a crest and is entirely sandy-brown, with darker brown wings and tail, a paler rump and underpart. It shows diffuse streaking on the breast, pale fringes to the wing feathers, and a yellowish bill. It feeds on fruits, berries, nectar, cereal grains and insects. It breeds in the steppes of Central Asia and the Middle east in May-June.
