Description : The Purple Heron is a long-legged wading bird with purple on the dorsal wing surface (adult bird length approximately 97 cm, wing 36 cm, bill 13 cm, tarsus 13.3 cm, tail 13 cm). Its head and neck are bright chesnut-buff with contrasting black crown, a line running from below each eye to the nape and from the upper throat along the sides of the neck. It has yellow irises and dark yellow bill. It feeds mostly on fishes, frogs and insects. It breeds in June-October.
