Description : Plum-headed Parakeet is a yellowish-green bird with a hooked bill and narrow tail which looks entirely pale green except for some details.The male has a plum-red to purplish-blue head and that of the female has a duller and greyer head.Both sexes have yellowish-white irises,bicolored bill and greenish-grey legs and feet.The juvenile has an entirely green body. They consume grains, fruits, and the fleshy petals of flowers such as Salmalia and Butea. Occasionally, they venture into agricultural fields and orchards. In India, their breeding season primarily spans from December to April and July to August. They construct nests by carving holes in tree trunks, where they lay 4-6 white eggs. The incubation and feeding duties are primarily handled by the female. They tend to gather and rest in communal roosts.
