It can be found inhabiting forests, woodlands, agricultural lands, and mangrove forests, often at elevations of up to 900 m (3,000 ft). Its diet consists of a diverse range of wild and cultivated seeds, buds, fruits, and nuts. In some cases, flocks of Alexandrine parakeets can cause significant damage to ripening fruits and grain crops like maize and jowar. These parakeets typically live in small flocks, although they may gather in larger groups in areas abundant with food or during communal roosting. Within their native range, Alexandrine parakeets breed from November to April. They typically build their nests in tree hollows, although they sometimes utilize self-excavated tree holes or cracks in buildings. Female parakeets lay 2 to 4 white, blunt oval-shaped eggs, measuring 27 to 34 mm (1.1 to 1.3 in). The average incubation period spans 24 days. The chicks fledge at around 7 weeks old and remain dependent on their parents until they reach 3 to 4 months of age.
