Description : The Pin-tailed Green Pigeon has a green crown and mantle, lime-green rump and grey tail with long, pointed central feather (adult bird length approximately 42 cm, weight 215 g, wing 17 cm, bill 1.5 cm, tarsus 2.4 cm, tail 24 cm). Its underparts looks greenish-yellow. The male has a greyish olive-green collar on the hind-neck, a pale orange wash to the breast. It feeds almost exclusively on fruits, especially figs, drupes and berries. The pin-tailed green pigeon is commonly found in various types of forests, such as secondary growth, foothill forests, subtropical and tropical dry forests, as well as evergreen rainforests. Its preferred habitats range from sea level to an elevation of 1800 meters. Breeding activities have been observed during April, May, and June in the Himalayan foothills, while in other parts of Southeast Asia, they breed throughout the year. The female pigeon lays two white eggs on a platform made of twigs, typically located 5-6 meters above the ground. Nests have been observed in bamboo thickets, trees, and shrubs. Both parents take turns in incubating the eggs and feeding the young. The average lifespan of an individual pigeon is approximately 4.2 years.
