Description : The Violet Cuckoo is a small forest bird whose male is purple and the female is bronze coloured (adult bird length approximately 17 cm, wing 10 cm, bill 1.6 cm, tarsus 1.5 cm, tail 7 cm). The male looks uniform glistening purple from above. Its head, neck, chin, throat and breast are purple. Its bill is bright orange. It feeds on caterpillars, bugs, and other soft insects. It breeds in the summer when the male sings throughout the day and moonlit nights.
