Description : The Swift Tern is a grey waterbird with a black crown and crest (adult bird length approximately 53 cm, wing 36 cm, bill 6.5 cm, tarsus 3.5 cm, tail 18.5 cm). It looks dark grey from above and white from below except for a few details. Its bill is creamy to greenish lemon-yellow. It has dark brown irises, brownish-black legs and feet. It feeds on fish and prawns. The greater crested tern breeds in colonies with other seabirds. It forms monogamous pairs and the colony size depends on fish availability. The largest colony is in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia. The terns change nesting sites and can move over 200 km.
