Description : The River Tern is a long-winged grey waterbird with a large orange-yellow bill, black cap and long forked tail (adult bird length approximately 42 cm, wing 27 cm, bill 4 cm, tarsus 2 cm, tail 20 cm). In the breeding season, it has greyish upperparts, greyish-white underparts and a black crown, forehead. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and aquatic insects. It breeds in April-June.
