Description : The plaintive cuckoo is a small bird, measuring about 21-24 cm in length. The adult male has a grey-brown upper body, orange underparts, and a grey head, throat, and upper breast. The tail feathers have white tips. Its legs and feet are yellow, the eye is red, and the bill is black above and yellow below. The adult female can resemble the male, but it often has a reddish-brown coloration and dark bars. Juvenile birds are similar to the female but paler, with dark streaks on the crown and throat instead of bars. The plaintive cuckoo is a small bird that inhabits various habitats and feeds on invertebrates. It practices brood parasitism, laying its eggs in the nests of other bird species. It is often solitary and can be difficult to spot.
