Description : The grey-bellied cuckoo, known for its small size measuring approximately 23 cm in total length, showcases a predominantly grey plumage with a white lower belly and undertail. Its wings exhibit a distinct white patch. In certain cases, female grey-bellied cuckoos may display a reddish-brown coloration with dark barring on their upper body, an unbarred tail, and prominently dark-barred whitish underparts. Juveniles resemble females but exhibit a duller shade of grey.
This species thrives in light woodland areas and cultivated regions. The grey-bellied cuckoo is classified as a brood parasite, relying on warblers as host birds for its reproductive cycle. It lays a solitary egg. Its diet primarily comprises various insects and caterpillars. Notably, this cuckoo species is known for its vocalizations, emitting a persistent and loud call that resembles "pee-pip-pee-pee." During its call, the cuckoo depresses its tail.
