Description : The Black-winged Stilt is a black and white shorebird with exceptionally long, crimson legs (adult bird length approximately 25 cm, weight 177 g, wing 24.5 cm, bill 6.1 cm, tarsus 12.5 cm, tail 8.5 cm). The male looks glossy metallic black on its back and pure white from below. It feeds chiefly on insects, crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates. It breeds in April-August. Stilts breed in marshes, shallow lakes, and ponds, comprising their primary breeding habitat. Certain populations migrate and relocate to coastal areas during winter, while those in warmer regions typically remain resident or may occasionally venture to nearby locations.
