Description : The Asian Openbill is a large, long-legged, black and grey waterbird with an unusual bill (adult bird length approximately 81 cm, wing 40 cm, bill 15.5 cm, tarsus 14.5 cm, tail 20 cm). The bill is dusky red to dull greenish-horn. The non-breeding adult has a greyish-white body and dull pink legs. The male and the female look alike. It chiefly feeds on molluscs. It also takes small mammals, frogs and crabs. It usually opens the shells of mollusks to eat. It breeds in July-April.
