Description : Asian plain martin is a small bird with grey-brown upperpart and pale whitish underpart.Their chin,throat and breast are grey-brown and tail is square or slightly forked.Their bill and legs are dark. It measures approximately 12-13 cm in length and weighs around 12-18 grams.
It is found in open habitats, including sandbanks, riverbanks, and quarries. It is commonly found in central and eastern Asia.
It feeds primarily on insects, which it catches while in flight. This species is known for its nesting behavior, with colonies of birds excavating tunnels in sandbanks or earth walls. It is also a highly migratory species, with populations wintering in Southeast Asia and Australia. The Sand Martin breeds in colonies, with each pair excavating a tunnel up to one meter long in a sandbank or earth wall. The female lays 4-5 eggs, which are incubated by both parents for around 14-16 days.
