Description : The Scaly-breasted Munia is a small brown passerine with prominent white spoting or scaling on the underparts (length 10 cm, weight 13.6 g, wing 5.6 cm, bill 1.3 cm, tarsus 1.5 cm, tail 3.8 cm approximately). It is olive-brown above with white baring on the rump, and more rufous-orange on the upper-tail coverts and short pointed tail. It has a dark chin and chestnut upper breast, the rest of the underparts are white with black scaling giving a spotted appearance. It has a triangular slaty-black bill, orange-brown irises and slaty legs and feet. It feeds on rice, grass seeds and lantana berries. It breeds in May-September and nests in saplings or thorny bushes about 2-5 m above the ground, sometimes high up in palm fronds.
