Description : The White-crested Laughingthrush is a large olive-brown passerine with a distinctive white crest (length 28 cm, weight 117 g, wing 13 cm, bill 3 cm, tarsus 4.8 cm, tail 13 cm). It looks warm brown all over except for its remarkable white peaked and crested crown, throat and upper breast. It has a rufous collar band, chestnut mantle, dark olive-brown wings and long brown tail lacking any white. Its prominent eye-stripe from the lores to the ear-coverts is jet black giving a masked appearance. It has reddish-brown irises, pale bluish-slate orbital skin, black bill, plumbeous or dull black legs and feet, dark horn claws and yellowish-grey sole. The male and the female look alike. It feeds on insects, small reptiles, seeds, berries and nectar. It breeds in March-September.
