Description : The Puff-throated Babbler is a small brown terrestrial passerine with a heavily streaked breast (length 15 cm, weight 28 g, wing 7 cm, bill 2 cm, tarsus 2.8 cm, tail 7.3 cm). The upperparts are a uniform chestnut brown except for a rich rufous cap. It has a buff supercilium which extends to the nape. It has brown ear-coverts and a white eye-ring. The throat is plain white, the rest of the underparts are pale buff with dark brown stripes and spots on the breast and a white center to the belly. It has crimson to deep crimson irises, and flesh coloured legs, feet, claws and sole. Its bill is multicoloured: the upper mandible is dark brown, the lower mandible is light yellow. The male and the female look alike, but the tail of the female is a little shorter. It feeds mainly on insects. It breeds in February-June.
