Description : The Greater Rufous-headed Parrotbill is a small passerine with a rufous head, buff underparts and a stubby bill (length 15 cm, wing 9 cm, bill 1.5 cm, tarsus 2.8 cm, tail 8.3 cm). Its entire crown, ear-coverts and nape are deep rufous-orange and the rest of the upperparts are plain olive brown including the longish graduated tail. The underparts are uniform pale buff. It has a short swollen bicoloured bill: a dark brownish upper mandible and grayish lower mandible. Its irises are reddish-brown, a patch of blue orbital skin extends from the bill to around the eye, and its legs and feet are bluish-grey. The male and the female look alike. The juvenile has a paler rufous-orange head. It feeds on insects and seeds. It breeds in April-July.
