Description : This is a description of a woodpecker that is relatively small in size, measuring 17.5 cm (6.9 inches) and weighing between 28 to 46 grams (1-1.6 ounces). It has a pale head and a black upper-body with heavy white spots and bars. Its underparts are dark with dingy white streaks and a red patch on its belly. The woodpecker also has irregular brown patches on its cheeks and neck. In the female, the crown and nape are yellowish while the male has a scarlet nape and a yellow fore-crown.
