Description : The Greater Flameback is a large woodpecker which has an erect crest and a long neck.Coloration is highly variable with unmarked golden-yellow to dark brown back and wings.The tail is black having the underparts white with dark markings.The straight pointed bill is longer than the head and the legs and feet are lead-grey along with whitish to yellow iris.The adult male greater flameback always has a red crown but the females have a varifying crown color.Juveniles are like the female but duller.
