Description : The Common Moorhen is a small blackish-grey swamp-bird with a red and yellow bill and long toes (adult bird length approximately 33cm, wing 16 cm, bill 4 cm, tarsus 5 cm, tail 6 cm). It looks dark olive-brown from above and slaty-grey from below. It has a blackish head and neck and red irises. It feeds on fruits, seeds, and shoots of aquatic plants, insects, larvae, molluscs, frogs and small fishes. It breeds in May-August.
