Description : The Red Turtle Dove is a small dove, whose brightly coloured male is visibly different from the female (adult bird length approximately 23 cm, wing 14 cm, bill 1.7 cm, tarsus 1.9 cm, tail 9 cm). The male has a bluish-grey head. Its underparts are pale pink. The female is a darker fawn-brown above and darker buffish-grey below. They have a preference for areas with ample trees, such as canal or roadside tree plantations, and tend to avoid vast desert regions. Initially, upon arrival, they are commonly found in small flocks, but they quickly disperse and begin the process of pair formation and breeding.
