Description : The Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush is a large olive-brown passerine with a black necklace (length 27 cm, weight 84 g, wing 12.5 cm, bill 3 cm, tarsus 4.2 cm, tail 12.6 cm). The upperparts are olive-brown with greyish fringes to the primaries, brown greater wing-coverts, and white tips and sides to the long brown graduated tail. It has a narrow white supercilium, blackish lores, a black eye line merging into a broad black border to pale centred ear-coverts which does not join back to the base of the bill. The white throat is bordered by a narrow black necklace with a broad rufous-orange inner border. Its breast and belly are white, the flanks are rufous-orange. It has yellow or orange-yellow irises, dark horn bill with a paler tip, and brown or brownish flesh legs and feet. The male and the female look alike. It feeds mainly on insects, snails, small lizards, berries, seeds and other vegetable matter. It breeds in March-July.
