Description : The Common Rosefinch is a small brown or reddish passerine with a short slightly forked tail (length 15 cm, weight 23.6 g, wing 8.5 cm, bill 1.4 cm, tarsus 1.9 cm, tail 5.6 cm approximately). The male and female differ. In breeding plumage the male has a deep red head, throat, breast and rump, with a reddish-brown mantle, darker wings with two pinkish wing bars, dark brown earcoverts, and a whitish-buff belly and vent with some red scaling. The non-breeding male and female have olive-brown upperparts streaked with dark brown, two pale wing-bars, and whitish underparts narrowly streaked with brown. It feeds on seeds, flower buds, fruits, berries, and sometimes on insects. It breeds in the Himalaya in June-August and nests in bushes.
