Description : The Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush is a large olive-brown passerine with a broad, black necklace (length 29 cm, weight 156 g, wing 14 cm, bill 3.5 cm, tarsus 4.7 cm, tail 13 cm). The upperparts are olive-brown with a whitish outer border to the primaries, black greater wing-coverts, the long broad graduated tail has black sub-temrinal marks and broad white tips visible in flight. It has a white supercilium extending behind the eye, pale lores, and a black eye line joining with a black border to the ear-coverts. The ear-coverts may be black, white or streaked, but have a black lower border joining as a moustache stripe to the base of the bill. A broad black necklace surrounds a pale buff throat. It has pale rufous flanks, and a white middle breast and belly. It has reddish or orange-brown irises, chrome-yellow orbital ring, slaty-grey legs and feet and blackish-brown bill with a paler base. The male and the female look alike. It feeds on insects, snails, small vertebrates, berries, seeds and nectar. It breeds in March-August.
