Description : Indian Cormorant smaller than Great Cormorant, with thinner neck, slimmer oval shaped head and longer tail. During breeding time adult bird has glossy back, blue eyes, dark facial skin and also tuft of white behind eye, scattering of white filoplumes on neck. It feeds on fishes. The Indian cormorant is known for its gregarious fishing behavior in inland rivers and large wetlands, although it is not typically found along the open coast. It forms breeding colonies with other bird species and breeds locally. The breeding season varies depending on rainfall and water conditions, occurring from July to February in northern India and from November to February in Sri Lanka. Nests, made of twigs, are constructed on partially submerged trees or islands in close proximity to other nests in dense colonies. The typical clutch consists of three to five bluish-green eggs with a chalky surface. When fishing, the Indian cormorant employs short dives and often fishes in groups, strategically forming a wide front to drive fish into a confined area.
